A procession was held in Albuquerque on Friday, to remember the homeless men and women who died this year. Hundreds came together for the march. The procession began from the “Homeless Memorial wall” on First Street towards the Immaculate Conception Church.

The names of all the people who died were read out loud. The people carried the signs with the names of the deceased people. When they entered the church, they arranged the signs on the floor in front of the alter.

This vigil was held to spread the awareness among people about the severity of homelessness. One of the marcher said that homelessness is causing death of people and we need to realise it. We need to provide them with shelter, we have a lot of work to do.

The Albuquerque Homeless Persons’ Memorial Vigil is organized annually. It is organized by the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness. Various organisations providing services for the homeless people are members of the Vigil. This vigil was one of the hundreds held every year in the country around this time of the year.

A member of the Vigil said that homelessness worsens the health conditions and the homeless people die younger.

Many of the people who died, have died because of alcoholism or were frozen to death. More than 60 people have died in Albuquerque this year. There are more than thousand men, women and children without shelter.
